Volunteer opportunities

AIDA is looking for enthusiastic young people, willing to get involved in educational projects and in the non-profit field.

AIDA (ro: Asociaţia pentru Iniţiative Durabile - Alternative | engl:Alternatives Sustainable Initiatives Association) is recruiting young people who are willing to invest their time, knowledge and skills in our projects.

Our organization is offering 2 types of volunteering programmes: EVS - European Voluntary Service and VV - Virtual Volunteering.

EVS - European Voluntary Service is part of the Erasmus Plus programme (European Commission's financing programme for education) - an opportunity for youth aged 17-30 to volunteer in a foreign country 5-7 hours/day and 5 days/ week with all the living costs covered (food allowance, pocket money, free international travel, free accommodation, free local transportation, mentorship, language lessons). Check all the available positions below.

VV - Virtual Volunteering is the possibility to work for our organization (based in Romania) from your own country through Internet. The virtual volunteering programme includes both online and offline activities using Skype, Google Drive and e-mail. In this programme your volunteer work will be based on a volunteering contract. You will benefit by a volunteer certificate, a recommendation letter, a promotional pack for the team members and a great virtual volunteering experience. Check the available positions below.

Cluj-Napoca
is the 2nd largest city in Romania and was the European Youth Capital of 2015. The multicultural  city is located in Transylvania and is the home for 324,576 people, without adding it's 80.000 students.

According to a 2012 research, Cluj-Napoca is the friendliest city for foreign people in Europe and also a city that well integrates the foreign people choosing to live here. Cluj-Napoca is also the most progressive European city.

In Cluj we love the arts! The city is hosting 2 national theatres, the Romanian National Theatre and Opera and The Hungarian National Theatre and Opera, the most important film festival of the country TIFF, Transylvania International Film Festival, the most loved festival - Electric Castle Festival (European Festival Awards finalist for medium sized festivals), the only major size festival in Romania - Untold Festival (1st edition in 2015 as the European Youth Capital), a loved cultural brand - Jazz in the Park festival (free entrance). TIMAF is one of the most important indoor festivals with events all the year. The city has even more festivals that you need to attend, as an EVS or as a tourist. Cluj deserves it all! That's why the city is a European Capital of Culture finalist for 2021.

If we think at nature, Cluj-Napoca is surrounded by forests and if you want to go in a quiet place the city is located  20-30 minutes away from beautiful mountains. The city benefits by a small sky resort and different fun parks, a beautiful botanical garden, a mystical full of legends forest (Hoia-Baciu forest) and a central park full of people reading or enjoying fresh air in their hammock or having a pick-nick outside.

In terms of sport the city has different small workout parks with sport fields. There are also places for swimming, basketball, skate parks, football, adventure parks and many others.

The coffee and tea lovers will be happy in Cluj. The city has many great coffee shops and tea houses. Some of the bars and coffee shops are in the international tops, either for the taste, either for the original design of the places.

Living and working conditions

Accommodation:
The volunteers will share a home. They will live in 3 beds shared room in a 3 rooms home (1 room for girls, 1 room for boys, 1 shared living room).

Facilities:
An EVS experience should provide the volunteers the same conditions as a normal family in Cluj-Napoca. Romania does not have euro. We have leu. One euro is 4.5 lei.
Generally speaking Europeans consider Romania a country with small/ cheap prices. A 2l Coca Cola costs 5 lei.  A bread costs 3-5 lei. A beer costs 2-7 lei. A kilo of apples costs 2 lei. Going out in a bar may cost you either 5-10 lei, either 50 lei. There are places and prices for everyone.

Working places:
The volunteers will work in 2 places:

  • the AIDA office (office activities, planning performances, theatre classes, rehearsals, preparation of costumes and materials, mentorship session, language classes, etc.);

  • the theatre (rehearsals and performances)

  • In the villages around Romania, the volunteers will work in schools.

Working language:

The language of the project is English. The national language is Romanian but most of the Romanians will not have a problem with understanding English. To make your living even more relevant, you have the possibility to learn Romanian so you will be able to communicate better outside of the project (or in the project when you work with small children).

Working hours:

The EVS volunteers will work 6 hours/ day, 5 days/ week. Each week the volunteers will have 2 free days (week-ends or week days - depending on the performances). The volunteers also have 2 other free days/ month.

Medical aspects:

Each volunteer will benefit by a EVS medical Insurance valid in Romania and in any other country of the world, on all the duration of the service (plus 2 months more, after the service).

Learning experience:

All the volunteers will work on a learning plan or a personal development plan and will be supported in developing the skills, knowledge or attitudes needed by the volunteers for the project and for their career after the EVS project.

EVS Resource persons:

The volunteers will benefit of the support of a mentor that will have the role of helping the volunteer to adapt to the project, to integrate in the local community, to learn how to learn and to learn how to live and work in an international environment. The language teacher is also a resource person. The teacher will contribute to the language learning but also to the Romanian culture understanding.
